A Big, Happy Holiday Season for Refugees Families of the Hser-Ner-Moo Community Center

Each year, our Big Key Real Estate family bands together to help those less fortunate than us during the holiday season. This year, we’re fulfilling Christmas wish lists for 50 refugee families who live in the South Salt Lake area and who participate in the services offered by the Hser Ner Moo Community Center.

More than 1200 refugees flee to Utah each year and refugees make up 8 percent of South Salt Lake’s population, a higher percentage than any other any city in the state. To help these brave families acclimate to life in Utah, the Hser Ner Moo Community Center was founded. The community center, named in honor and remembrance of Hser Ner Moo, a 7-year old refugee girl who was killed in 2012, provides a safe community for those struggling to attend school, learn the language or get jobs. Refugee students who attend use Hser Ner Moo Community Center programs are at a 90% graduation rate with 5% of the high school graduates moving to post-secondary education with full-ride scholarships to local Utah universities like Westminster and the University of Utah. The programs the Hser Ner Moo Community Center provides have also reduced youth crime rates, lowered student turnover rates by 60%, and provided a place of stability and community for the refugees of South Salt Lake.

We firmly believe that centers and programs like those at the Hser Ner Moo Community Center are changing the world and we’d like to help them and the families they support. This holiday season we will be fulfilling holiday wish lists for 50 refugee families. If you’d like to join us, please contact us at (801) 382-7746 or
